Car park in Mansfield to close for a week

Mansfield District Council's Four Seasons Shopping Centre Car Park will close for one week from Sunday 6 September to Saturday 12 September for essential construction work.

The full closure is part of a £2m improvement scheme due to complete by October. The council said a complete shutdown is necessary to allow contractors to safely carry out the final phases of the upgrade.

Where to park during the closure

The Four Seasons Shopping Centre will remain open throughout the closure. Shoppers and visitors can use alternative car parks within the town centre: Union Street, Toothill Lane, Toothill Road, and Clumber Street. The council said hundreds of parking spaces are available at both council-owned and privately-owned car parks within a five-minute walk of the town centre.

What the upgrade includes

The improvement project involves concrete frame repairs, re-tarmacking and colour-coding surfaces, and installing more effective lighting and signs. The work also includes easier-to-find electric vehicle charging points, improved pedestrian walkways, and wider parking bays in some areas.

Payment options have been expanded to include card, cash, and a smartphone app.

Background to the repairs

The car park, which opened in 1976, underwent a structural survey in 2024 that highlighted improvements needed to increase its longevity and viability. Further checks were carried out in November 2025 following the partial collapse at the nearby Walkden Street Car Park a year earlier. Those surveys confirmed the structural integrity of the Four Seasons Car Park, with the council noting that although the two car parks look similar, their reinforced concrete deck designs differ.

The work is funded through Mansfield District Council's capital programme budgets for 2025/26 and 2026/27. The contractor is Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs.
