Mansfield District Council is asking residents, businesses and community organisations to comment on the Publication Draft of the Mansfield Local Plan Review, which will shape how the district develops up to 2043.

The plan sets out a vision for Mansfield as a healthier, greener and more vibrant place to live and work. It will determine where new homes are built, where businesses can expand, what infrastructure is needed and how the district's natural and historic environment will be protected.

Housing Target and Development Sites

The plan provides for at least 9,900 new homes between 2023 and 2043. This includes affordable housing, homes for older people and opportunities for self-building.

Housing growth is proposed across Mansfield and Warsop Parish. Strategic developments are planned at Pleasley Hill Farm, land off Jubilee Way and Berry Hill, alongside other proposed housing sites. These sites are intended to deliver homes, employment land, local facilities, green infrastructure and transport improvements.

Sustainability and Environmental Protection

The plan prioritises sustainability in future growth. Policies support renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable drainage, green infrastructure, biodiversity net gain and flood risk reduction measures. New development is expected to protect landscapes, wildlife habitats, green spaces, rivers, heritage assets and local character.

Public Consultation Background

This is the latest stage in an extensive consultation process. The council consulted on the Issues and Opportunities Report in 2023 and the Regulation 18 Local Plan Review in 2025. Comments from residents, businesses, landowners and organisations have been considered alongside updated evidence and technical studies.

Executive Mayor Andy Abrahams said an up-to-date Local Plan is essential because it is the legal and strategic foundation for deciding planning applications, shaping growth and protecting local priorities. "When a Local Plan is out of date, the Council loses control over where and how development happens," he said.

Residents and organisations can now submit comments on the Publication Draft during the consultation period.
