Mansfield District Council has announced plans to create six new accessible play spaces across the district, funded by the Government's Pride in Place Impact Fund. The programme will include five play parks and a multi-use-games-area (MUGA), with the potential for additional projects to be added.
The play spaces are being designed to be accessible and enjoyable for people of all ability levels, with a focus on creating inclusive environments for children and young people across Mansfield communities.
Community Input Sought
Before any design or development work begins, Mansfield District Council and Mansfield CVS have launched a public consultation to shape the appearance and function of the new play spaces. The consultation will ask how existing parks and play areas are currently used, what barriers prevent children and families from accessing them, and what improvements would benefit local communities most.
The council is particularly keen to hear from children and young people, parents and carers, schools, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities providers, disability organisations, local residents and community groups.
Executive Mayor of Mansfield Andy Abrahams said the project will "inject new life into our parks and open spaces across Mansfield" and help improve physical and mental health by encouraging outdoor exercise and nature engagement among young people.
The programme will build on existing consultation evidence where available, including previous engagement undertaken for Pencil Park by Warsop Parish Council.
