Mansfield District Council has completed a £7.7 million development of 22 new council houses, with the final tenants due to move in over the coming days.
The council took handover of the homes from Mercer Building Solutions earlier this month. Nine families are already living in the houses, with 13 more allocated tenants moving in soon.
What's in the development
The development on the Bellamy estate includes 20 two, three and four-bedroom semi-detached houses and two two-bedroom detached houses.
The homes have been let at affordable rents, set at 80% of local market rents. They are built to high energy efficiency standards with super-high insulation, solar panels and air source heat pumps.
The houses feature modern design elements including lots of storage space, electrical sockets and generously-sized gardens. All homes have electric vehicle charging points.
Future-proofing and sustainability
The designs allow for future adaptations such as downstairs wet room showers for those that need them in later life. The homes exceed the current Future Homes Standard specifications and will help lower energy bills for tenants.
Estate regeneration
The development is part of a wider regeneration of the Bellamy estate, which dates back to the late 1960s. The improvements include new shops, new play areas and better transport links, including an improved bus service coming soon.
