Warsop Health Hub has installed 248 additional solar panels on its roof to significantly increase energy generation and reduce operating costs.
The panels will boost the leisure centre's annual electricity output from 9,612kWh to an estimated 114,952kWh — an increase of more than ten times. The £9.2m hub, which opened in 2024, originally included 24 solar panels as part of its design.
Funding and payback period
Sport England has funded £88,500 of the installation, with Mansfield District Council contributing the remaining £10,000. The total project cost is £98,500.
Energy savings are expected to cover the cost of installation within four years.
Climate change targets
The expansion supports Mansfield District Council's net-zero carbon emissions target by 2040. Executive Mayor Andy Abrahams said the new panels would help the hub "continue its excellent work in providing first class facilities for people to stay active, relax and have somewhere to meet friends and family."
Cllr Andy Burgin, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Leisure, described the scheme as "a big step forward" in the council's environmental priorities.
